Warning Issued
The use of LED technology is increasing worldwide. Especially in our country, as strip led prices and other led prices are affordable, they have become widespread among businesses and in outdoor lighting, holding an important place in night lighting. In fact, according to a study; the advantages of LED technology in daytime use have been demonstrated. As LED lighting systems, which still have moderate prices, develop and due to high demand from people, new investments have been made, and their prices are gradually decreasing. But like the problems in every new technology, people wonder if the products have any health effects. According to a study published in June 2013, a warning was issued that some night lighting products have a negative effect on human health and disrupt our physiological rhythm. As an example; it was observed that the rate of breast cancer is high in people who work at night, and there is an increase in other health problems. According to another study conducted after this research, which was presented as a thesis, there are also data related to LED technology. LED technology or all lighting products that are not incandescent have one thing in common. They are always produced based on blue colors in lighting. The blue light source affects the photoreceptors in our retina, which is the layer of our eye.
Architectural Perspective
After this effect, the secretion of melatonin hormone in the body begins to decrease. Due to this reduced hormone secretion, serotonin secretion automatically accelerates. However, serotonin secretion is needed during the day. Phil Richards from The Juno Lighting Group says that LEDs do not have the same effect as sunlight and cause side effects on our body. LEDs are generally produced rich in blue color. But since LED products do not contain infrared or ultraviolet rays, they are less harmful than other lighting systems. Interior designers state that their aim in using this technology in interior design after a certain time is to create a more natural interior design. However, according to research conducted by the Lighting Research Center; it has been revealed that the increase in diseases shows a parallelism with the emergence of LED lights in the market. People or workers in areas with high blue light exposure are more likely to get sick.
