What is an Occupational Health Doctor
The occupational health doctor practice, enacted by the government with the law dated July 20, 2013, offers many doctors the opportunity to become occupational health doctors. Due to a shortage of doctors in previous years, the new law, after the regulations made, has been put back into effect. With the new application, it has become mandatory for businesses with less than 50 employees to have an occupational health doctor. With the new omnibus bill submitted to the Turkish Grand National Assembly by the Ministry of Health, physicians who are not in management positions and who work in public institutions or organizations, as well as family physicians, can become occupational health doctors. The new regulation ensures that the need is met by offering this opportunity to family physicians as well.
Who Can Be an Occupational Health Doctor
Occupational health doctors, who will be responsible for the health and safety of employees in workplaces, will henceforth ensure that the necessary measures are taken regarding working conditions in workplaces. Additionally, sanctions will be applied to public institutions or organizations that do not have a doctor within their structure on certain matters, and if necessary, the progress of work will be halted. On the other hand, the necessary training for occupational health doctor practice will be provided by commercial organizations. Anyone who wishes to obtain this certificate will first attend the training provided by commercial firms, and upon completion of the training, they will be entitled to practice as an occupational health doctor. Furthermore, the content of the training generally consists of working conditions and the measures that can be taken against encountered risks. The scope of the training has been clearly and precisely stated within the omnibus bill submitted by the Ministry of Health, and it has been specified which topics the training will cover.
